Electrical Qualifications: How to Pass the AM2

You want to take all the steps necessary to prepare yourself fully for the AM2; after all, it is the last step you need to complete to get your electrical qualifications. Here are some things you want to focus on to make sure that you pass your assessment:

• Many people forget what they covered in college on MIMS cable; be sure to review this material thoroughly before you take your AM2.

• Take the time to practice reading a circuit diagram enough that you are comfortable with it.

• You should also familiarize yourself thoroughly with motors, since testing on them will be part of the AM2.

• Lighting circuits in singles will also be part of the assessment, and you will need to go over this. Pay particular attention to the procedures involved in wiring a two way and intermediate lighting circuit, along with a landlord's override switch.

• The correct safe isolation procedure is important.  You should plan to keep the key in your pocket or locked in a secure location.

When the time comes to take your AM2, do keep in mind that your tools are important and you will want to take steps to keep them secure. It makes good sense to buy a sturdy padlock for this purpose.

Being able to find faults in wiring will be an important part of your job once you have completed your electrical qualifications. Don't forget to use continuity and insulation tests when you feel they are necessary. These tests will provide you with valuable information you will need to pass your AM2.
