If you are working as an electrician, surveyor, or a consultant in the building industry, you need to keep your electrical qualifications up to date. Getting your City & Guilds 2382-10 or 2382-20 wiring qualifications is part of ensuring that your skills are current.
2382-10 and 2382-20 Course Requirements
While there are no specific entry requirements for the City and Guilds 2382-10, the course is geared toward people who have some experience as an electrician or in the electrical trade. As the 2382 qualification has no pre-qualification requirements and no practical element to the exam, it makes it an ideal electrician qualification to achieve via home study.
The City and Guilds 2382 home study course can prepare you for the 2382 exam which consists of 60 questions taken online in 2 hours for the 2382-10 full qualification, or 30 questions taken online in 60 minutes for the 2382-20 exam. (The 2382-20 exam is an update from the 16th to 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and is only for those who have relevant 16th Edition Qualifications)
If you are interested in the 2382-20 course, there are course requirements that you must fulfill before you can get on the course. This program is designed for people who are already working as electricians who have some knowledge of BS 7671. To enter the 2382-20 update exam, you must be able to show that you have fulfilled the requirements for one of the following City and Guilds Level 3 Certificates:
• Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671(2381)
• Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures) (2330-07),
• Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08)
• Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2360)
Until you can show the appropriate documentation, your certificate may be held by the exam centre, or you may not be allowed to take the update exam in the first place.
Electrical Qualifications for 2382-10 and 2382-20: Fees
You will be required to pay a fee for taking the online exam after you have finished the 2382-10 or the 2382-20 course. No other fees will be charged to get this electrical qualification. If you need to retake the exam to get a passing grade, you will pay the same amount again.
2382-10 and 2382-20 Guided Learning Hours
To pass the 2382-10 course, you can expect to spend between 30 and 35 hours of study to complete these electrical qualifications. The 2382-20 course will take less study time than the 2382-10; you should expect to devote approximately seven hours to the course material to prepare for the final examination.
2382-10 and 2382-20 Final Examinations
To pass the 2382-10 course, students will take a multiple choice exam. Two hours are allotted to answer all 60 questions. The exam will cover:
• Basic Principles • Testing
• Definitions • Special Locations or Installations
• Safety Protection • Inspection
• Equipment
The final exam for the 2382-20 course is also a multiple-choice online exam. Students will be able to consult the IEE Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008 while taking it, since it is an open-book exam. A non-programmable calculator is also required when taking the exam.
You will be given either a Pass or a Fail rating on the exam after it has been marked. The subject matter is similar to that of the 2382-10 exam, but the 2382-20 has only 30 questions. You will be given one hour to complete it. Maintaining your electrical qualifications requires keeping up to date, and getting the 2382-10 and 2382-20 wiring qualifications are one important component.
