Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations
If you are working as an electrician, surveyor, or a consultant in the building industry, you need to keep your electrical qualifications up to date. Getting your City & Guilds 2382-15 qualification is an important part of ensuring that your skills are current. Note that the previous -10, -12 and -20 qualifications have been replaced with the -15, which includes Amendment 3 of the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations BS7671.
2382-15 Course Requirements
While there are no specific entry requirements for the City and Guilds 2382-15, this 17th Edition course is geared toward people who have some experience as an electrician or in the electrical trade. As the 2382 qualification has no pre-qualification requirements and no practical element to the exam, it makes it an ideal qualification to achieve via home study.
The City and Guilds 2382 home study course can prepare you for the 2382-15 exam which consists of 60 questions taken online in 2 hours.
Exam Centre Fees
You will be required to pay a fee for taking the online exam after you have finished the 2382-15 course. No other fees will be charged to get this electrical qualification. If you need to retake the exam to get a passing grade, you will pay the same amount again less a City & Guilds registration fee (about £60). Exam fees vary, so it’s worth contacting a few accredited exam centres to check their prices before booking.
Guided Learning Hours
To pass the 2382-15 course, you can expect to spend between 30 and 35 hours of study to complete confidently, although depending on your experience you may require more or less time than this.
The Online Exam
To obtain the 2382-15 qualification, candidates will take a multiple choice exam. Two hours are allotted to answer all 60 questions, which are taken on the online e-volve exam interface. The exam will cover:
• Basic Principles • Testing
• Definitions • Special Locations or Installations
• Safety Protection • Inspection
The multiple-choice exam is ‘open book’, meaning that you can take your copy of the 17th Edition IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008 into the exam with you and refer to it when answering the questions. A non-programmable calculator is also useful when taking the exam.
You will be given either a Pass or a Fail rating on the exam after it has been automatically marked and a provisional result will be given to you shortly after completing the exam. A pass will result in a 17th Edition Certificate, which will be posted to your home direct from City and Guilds. More on 17th edition here.
Maintaining your electrical qualifications requires keeping up to date, and getting the 2382-15 qualifications can be a very important component of your overall qualification package.
